The 2007 season of MLB is one of the most memorable. It is the season when Bonds became the homerun king (despite the asterisk), Alex Rodriguez lived up his hyped career, and several young studs made their mark. The season also highlighted, Colorado’s Cinderella-run, Cleveland winning the division, and the Mets melted like an ice cream in a warm desert. Of course who can forget the Boston Red Sox. Beantown rejoiced as its team went on to win its 2nd World Series in 4 years (I predicted that the Sox will win it all before the season started). Their magical run was catapulted by their wily veterans and some youngsters who are sure to become stars.

As expected, this year provided studs and duds. I prefer discussing the former. Here is a rundown of the finest this season in each position.

C - This is one of the toughest calls to make. But I will hand the award to Jorge Posada. Despite the age and expected decline, he had his best season this year. Better luck next time: V. Martinez and R. Martin.

1B - First base is considered as the most loaded position when it comes to power performers. Carlos Pena of the D-Rays and Prince Fielder of the Brewers are worthy winners. But Albert Pujols still ranks as the best. He missed a ton of games and started slow. Still, Pujols managed to rake and made some damage using his bat. Better luck next time: C. Pena and P. Fielder

2B - Placido Polanco will win this award if defense was the main category. Picking Dustin Pedroia also makes sense. Unfortunately for the two, Chase Utley had a better season. Considering that he was injured towards the end of the season, Utley still managed to bat 100+ runs in. Better luck next time: P. Polanco and D. Pedroia

3B - Two words, Alex Rodriguez. .314 BA, 54 HR, 154 RBI, 24 SB, and the list goes on and on. Better luck next time: D. Wright, M. Lowell, C. Jones, M. Cabrera

SS - Stats alone, Hanley Ramirez will win this award by a mile. Overall, Jimmy Rollins posted the most meaningful numbers. Aside from leading his team to the playoffs, Rollins became the first player to hit more than 30 HRs, 30 2B, 20 3B, and stole 40 bases. Better luck next time: H. Ramirez and C. Guillen

LF - The Colorado Rockies managed to reach the World Series despite its tough road into the playoffs. Hence this list has to have a Rockie. Matt Holiday as expected fits the bill. He is one of the best on both ends of the game. Better luck next time: C. Lee and C. Crawford

CF - Playing center field requires foot speed and arm strength. On offense, this position is loaded with good hitters. Grady Sizemore and Carlos Beltran are impressive on both ends. But Ichiro Suzuki overtakes both players by an inch. Better luck next time: G. Sizemore and C. Beltran

RF - Vladimir Guerrero is still the finest right fielder in the game. Alex Rios also made some noise early in the season. This year, however, belongs to Magglio Ordonez. He is hands down the AL MVP if A-Rod was excluded. Better luck next time: V. Guerrero and A. Rios

DH - David Ortiz by light years. Better luck next time: T. Hafner and F. Thomas

SP - Jake Peavy: Triple crown winner

Josh Beckett: Pennant monster

Brandon Webb: Scoreless innings

RP - Francisco Rodriguez and Jonathan Papelbon
